VAT Manager

Our client is a leading global accountancy firm, known for providing high-quality services across audit, tax, advisory, and consulting. With an established presence in Manchester, the firm offers a collaborative and dynamic environment for professionals to thrive. They are now seeking a VAT Manager to join their growing VAT team. This is an exciting opportunity for a VAT specialist to work with a diverse portfolio of clients and play a key role in the firm’s VAT advisory and compliance services.
Key Responsibilities:

VAT Advisory: The VAT Manager will provide expert VAT advice to a broad range of clients, including multinational corporations, SMEs, and not-for-profits. They will advise on VAT planning, structuring, and compliance, with a focus on both UK and international VAT matters.

Client Relationship Management: The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing client relationships. This includes providing tailored VAT advice, responding to client queries, and ensuring that clients are kept informed of relevant legislative changes.

VAT Compliance and Reporting: The VAT Manager will oversee the preparation and review of VAT returns for a portfolio of clients. They will ensure that all returns are submitted accurately and on time, and that clients comply with UK VAT legislation. This will also involve managing the VAT compliance process and ensuring clients remain up to date with evolving VAT regulations.

Team Leadership and Development: The VAT Manager will lead a team of VAT professionals, providing guidance and mentoring to junior staff. They will help develop the team’s technical expertise and support their career progression through training and feedback.

Technical Support: The VAT Manager will keep abreast of the latest developments in VAT legislation and case law. They will provide technical leadership on complex VAT issues, delivering solutions that are both practical and in line with current regulations.

Business Development: The VAT Manager will actively contribute to business development efforts by identifying opportunities for new and additional VAT services within existing client portfolios. They will also assist in preparing proposals for new business and attend client pitches.

Cross-Department Collaboration: The role will involve collaborating with other departments within the firm, such as audit and corporate tax, to provide integrated services and deliver value to clients.
Key Skills & Experience:

ACA/ACCA/CTA or equivalent VAT qualification, or substantial relevant VAT experience.

A minimum of 4-6 years' experience working in VAT, with a strong background in VAT advisory and compliance, ideally within a professional services firm.

In-depth knowledge of UK VAT legislation, as well as experience in international VAT issues.

Proven experience in managing and developing teams, with excellent leadership and mentoring skills.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships with clients and colleagues.

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

A proactive, solution-focused approach to resolving VAT challenges and providing practical advice.

Experience with VAT software and systems would be advantageous.
